How we started

Tilton Realty was founded by Robert S. Tilton in 1957. A transplant from the east coast, Robert fell in love with California while he was a US Merchant Marine officer during and after WW2.  He moved his British war bride wife Beryl and his mother to California in 1947, driving his Packard cross county. He settled in the LA area where he worked for Standard Oil in transport and labor relations. Robert obtained his real estate credentials in the early 1950’s. In 1957, he fell in love with North San Diego County. He moved the family to San Marcos and entered the real estate business that year, first as MarcoVista Realty, then PaloMarcos Realty and finally Tilton Realty. Robert specialized in land development as well as sales. In the later stages of his career, Robert developed several industrial projects, most of which still stand today.

Dean and brother his Ross Tilton took over the business in 1958.  Ross specialized in residential real estate. Ross Tilton retired to Missouri in 2002. Dean concentrated on the industrial/commercial side of the business, which he continues along with his son Ronald Tilton.   Now son Raymond will be reviving the residential side of the business. Tilton Realty has been located at 128 N. Las Posas Road, San Marcos since 1978.
